Real Madrid's lineup has undergone notable changes as Vinicius Junior's performance has declined, making his place in the starting eleven uncertain amid emerging competitors capable of asserting themselves strongly. Vinicius needs regular playing time to regain his usual form, yet the new reality may confine him to the bench even after his suspension ends, which was imposed due to an incident involving hair-pulling of an opposing player. Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho made it clear during the press conference before the Valencia match, marking the end of the suspension period, that he will not rush to reinstate Vinicius in the starting lineup at any cost. Diomande has emerged as a significant force on the left wing after delivering impressive performances, making the number 7 jersey no longer guaranteed. Vinicius's appearances on the bench have become frequent, reflecting a decline in his status within the coach's plans, with potential further changes expected after the international break. Mourinho previously emphasized that a player's guaranteed participation depends on their performance on the field, not their name or status, stating he will handle Vinicius's situation when he returns to full fitness. Ahead of the trip to Valencia, Mourinho faced questions about Vinicius's situation, balancing the player's need for game time to regain form against the team's improved performance in his absence. He stressed that the team's interests come first and that he never wishes to harm the team for an individual's benefit. Despite strong internal support for Vinicius, including from his coach, Diomande's rise and the Brazilian's decline have made his chances of remaining a starter less certain than ever. Vinicius faces significant challenges in reclaiming his position in Real Madrid's starting lineup.
