New statements Trump regarding negotiations course and potential agreement future Iran

US President Donald Trump said that Iran is "desperately longing to reach an agreement," during the ceremony of Kevin Warsh officially taking the oath as chairman of the US Federal Reserve.

Trump added, "We will see how things turn out," in new remarks addressing the Iranian file and the US military escalation.

Trump stressed that the United States "dealt severe blows to Iran and had no other choice," emphasizing that Tehran "cannot possess a nuclear weapon."

In the context of his speech, Trump said he told Chinese President Xi Jinping that the United States "possesses the greatest military in the world," calling for raising the US defense budget to about 1.5 trillion dollars.

Meanwhile, an Iranian source told Reuters on Thursday that despite not reaching an agreement yet, the gaps between Tehran and Washington have narrowed, noting that the file of Iranian uranium enrichment and Tehran's control over the Strait of Hormuz remain among the most prominent remaining points of contention.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio indicated on Thursday that some progress had been made, saying: "There are some positive signs. I don't want to be overly optimistic. So, let's see what happens over the next few days."

US President Donald Trump had announced last Monday the suspension of the planned military attack on Iran at the request of Gulf leaders, with US forces remaining in a state of full readiness to launch a large-scale attack at any moment if an agreement is not reached.

It is noteworthy that the United States and Israel began their war on Iran on February 28, 2026. A fragile truce came into effect on April 8, followed by one round of indirect negotiations in Pakistan, without achieving significant progress.

Since then, negotiations have halted, with the US naval blockade on Iranian ports continuing, and Tehran's insistence on closing the Strait of Hormuz.
