Pentagon Disables Ad Tracking Tools to Safeguard Forces from Targeting

To bolster personnel security, the U.S. armed forces have disabled ad tracking tools on their mobile devices and computers. This measure follows concerns that commercially available location data could be exploited to target U.S. forces in the Middle East, military officials confirmed. The U.S. Air Force informed Senator Ron Wyden of its decision to halt ad identifiers on its devices two months prior. Similarly, the Special Operations Command recently implemented comparable actions on its Windows-based systems. Senator Wyden has pressed the Department of Defense for months for clarifications regarding the risks of using commercial location data to track its forces.
