In New York, Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio underscored the critical importance of preventing factions from launching attacks from Iraqi territory. Their meeting, held yesterday, Monday, took place on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. The Prime Minister's media office reported that Al-Zaidi discussed with Rubio and the accompanying delegation ways to solidify bilateral Iraqi-American relations and elevate the strategic partnership between the two friendly nations. Al-Zaidi affirmed that the Iraqi government is committed to fostering constructive economic cooperation that expands areas of joint work and promotes mutual interests between both sides. The Prime Minister also reiterated his firm determination to fulfill all sovereign entitlements and to proceed with measures to exclusively control weapons by the state, in accordance with established constitutional and legal principles. For his part, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed his country's full support for Iraq, its government and people, in their efforts to establish and sustain internal stability in the long term, and to realize the aspirations of Iraqis for economic development and enhanced openness to the world. Rubio affirmed Washington's support for the Iraqi government's steps and decisions aimed at completing the foundations of the state and consolidating the pillars of comprehensive stability and economic development. In a related context and reaffirming the position, the US Department of State stated that both Rubio and Al-Zaidi agreed on the utmost importance of preventing any attacks by factions originating from Iraqi territory.
