Prime Minister Stresses Agricultural Support for Job Creation, Import Reduction

Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi affirmed on Saturday that supporting the agricultural sector contributes to providing job opportunities and reducing reliance on imports. This came during his inauguration of the seventeenth session of the Agricultural Week, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture. The event was attended by several ministers, including those of Agriculture, Trade, Education, Water Resources, and Environment, in addition to a number of officials, specialists, and representatives of companies and institutions active in this vital sector. The Prime Minister toured the exhibition pavilions held as part of the Agricultural Week's activities, where he inspected the latest agricultural products, technologies, and supplies displayed by participating companies and entities. The tour included a review of innovative experiments and projects in plant and animal production, modern irrigation techniques, agricultural mechanization, as well as industries and supplies related to the agricultural sector. Al-Zaidi emphasized the paramount importance of developing the agricultural sector and elevating the level of local production, which enhances food security and increases agriculture's contribution to the national economy. He stressed the necessity of providing support to farmers and creating an attractive environment for agricultural investment, encouraging the adoption of modern technologies to raise production levels and improve quality. He indicated that the government would launch several initiatives and supportive steps for the agricultural sector, explaining that "Iraq's land is rich with its resources, both beneath its surface, represented by oil and other minerals, and above its surface, represented by agriculture. We are diligently working to invest these resources to achieve comprehensive development in the country." He clarified that the government's focus on the agricultural sector falls within its economic and developmental vision, given its pivotal role in creating job opportunities, stimulating the local economy, reducing imports, and achieving balanced and sustainable development across all governorates. The seventeenth session of the Agricultural Week sees the participation of representatives from 14 countries and over 200 specialized Iraqi, Arab, and foreign companies. These companies showcase their advanced products, technologies, and solutions across various agricultural fields, providing an ideal platform for exchanging expertise and experiences, and opening new horizons for cooperation and investment in this sector.
