Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaydi on Sunday called upon the Council of Representatives to expedite the approval of vital draft laws, emphasizing Parliament's crucial legislative and oversight role in supporting government operations. These remarks came during his reception of a delegation from the Ishraqat Kanoun bloc, which included its political bureau and parliamentary group, led by the party's Secretary-General, Yasser Majeed Al-Nasrallah. Al-Zaydi, during the meeting, highlighted the existence of draft laws requiring swift passage, primarily the Internal Oversight Authority bill, in addition to several other legislations. The Prime Minister also commended the performance of the Ishraqat Kanoun bloc and its role in various fields. In a related context, Al-Zaydi outlined the government's directions within its program to address service and economic files, particularly in areas like housing, electricity, and the establishment of economic cities. These initiatives aim to improve service levels, support development, and create employment opportunities. He further clarified the government's interest in developing both the tax and customs systems through automating procedures and updating work mechanisms. This includes adopting a pre-deduction mechanism starting early next October, which will enhance financial management efficiency and boost non-oil revenues. For their part, the Ishraqat Kanoun delegation expressed their support for the Prime Minister's efforts and the government's measures in combating corruption and reinforcing Iraq's sovereignty. They stressed the importance of activating the preventive aspect and improving institutional performance, indicating their readiness to adopt the Internal Oversight Authority bill and enhance cooperation and coordination between Parliament and oversight bodies.
