Prominent Parliamentary Legislation Tops Legislative Agenda Prior To Official Recess

Amidst ongoing preparations for the upcoming phase, parliamentary movements are seriously heading towards including a package of vital legislation within the agenda of the House of Representatives, with persistent efforts to proceed with discussing and completing all their legislative procedures before the parliamentary recess begins. These developments come at a time when the legislative leadership is preparing to focus on essential files awaiting resolution. In this context, the head of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, MP Uday Awad, confirmed in a statement to the official newspaper that the budget and Popular Mobilization Forces laws represent two of the most prominent and important laws that the council is working to follow up on and pay close attention to after completing the formation of the ministerial cabinet, indicating that the sessions of the House of Representatives will officially resume during the next week to discuss these files. Awad added that the Popular Mobilization Forces law, alongside the dual nationality law, will be at the forefront of the legislation scheduled on the agenda of the upcoming sessions, at a time when intensive parliamentary efforts are continuing to include the budget law and place it at the top of the country's legislative priorities. For his part, MP Hamid Abbas explained in a related statement to the official newspaper that the draft Popular Mobilization Forces law has indeed reached the halls of the House of Representatives, containing more than seventeen articles after merging the service, retirement, and structural laws into a single legislative draft, a matter that directly contributes to facilitating its discussion and proceeding towards its enactment. Abbas pointed out that the project has witnessed a number of amendments and the deletion of some vocabulary, emphasizing that the specialized parliamentary committees will work diligently to achieve the required balance between the text submitted by the Popular Mobilization Forces authority and the amendments placed by the government, reaching an appropriate consensus formula that allows passing the law as soon as possible. He also stressed the existence of an urgent and necessary need to enact the law, given its utmost importance in organizing the affairs of service and retirement as well as the administrative structure of the authority, guaranteeing the rights of its affiliates and achieving the public interest for all. He continued explaining that the government and the House of Representatives appear determined to move forward in legislating the law, while providing sufficient time to discuss all its articles and make the necessary amendments during various legislative stages, in preparation for presenting it for a vote and final approval. Abbas concluded his confirmations by pointing out that legislating the Popular Mobilization Forces law represents a top priority alongside the budget law, drawing attention to the council's keenness to include and read them thoroughly before the launch of the legislative recess, and moving forward to take all necessary procedures to pass them in the near future.
