The Central Criminal Court for Combating Corruption has issued a seven-year prison sentence against Ali Maarij Suwaidij Tahir Al-Bahadli, the former Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Distribution Affairs, in an illicit enrichment case. This ruling, announced by the Federal Integrity Commission, mandates the convicted individual to return the illicit gains and imposes a financial fine of equal value. The Commission stated the verdict was based on Article (19/second) of Law No. (30 of 2011) concerning the Integrity Commission and Illicit Enrichment, applying to Al-Bahadli, who served as Undersecretary for Distribution Affairs. The value of the illicit enrichment to be repaid by the convicted individual totaled 4 billion, 732 million, and 840 thousand Iraqi Dinars, alongside 16 million, 560 thousand, and 318 US Dollars, as per legal provisions. The ruling also included a financial fine on the convicted person equal to this illicit enrichment value. Moreover, the court affirmed the seizure of the convicted person's movable and immovable assets, granting the Federal Integrity Commission the right to claim compensation for damages once the judgment is finalized. The decision further encompassed the confiscation of all seized funds, gold jewelry, vehicles, and real estate belonging to the convicted individual.
