Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received his Palestinian counterpart, Mahmoud Abbas, in Cairo today, Wednesday, where extensive discussions took place on developments in the Palestinian cause and current regional files. During the meeting, President Sisi affirmed that the Palestinian issue holds a central position in the region, stressing that it will remain so until a just and comprehensive settlement is achieved. In this framework, the Egyptian President reiterated his country's firm support for the rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them their right to establish their independent state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Sisi explained that the establishment of the Palestinian state, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions, represents the path to achieving lasting peace and stability in the Middle East, affirming Egypt's continued efforts to support the Palestinian people and work towards a settlement. For his part, President Mahmoud Abbas expressed his great pleasure in visiting Egypt and meeting with President Sisi, commending the efforts made by Cairo in supporting the Palestinian cause and protecting the rights of the Palestinian people.
