Tehran informs Pakistani mediator of 5 key demands to resume Washington

Iran's Fars news agency reported, citing an informed source, that Tehran will not enter a second round of negotiations with Washington without implementing 5 confidence-building conditions with the United States. According to the source, the five conditions set by Tehran include: ending the war on all fronts, especially in Lebanon; lifting the blockade and economic sanctions imposed on Iran; full release of frozen Iranian assets abroad; compensation for material and human losses resulting from the war; and accepting Iran's right to sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz without interference in its legal arrangements. The agency quoted the source saying Iran informed the Pakistani mediator that the continued US naval blockade after the ceasefire reinforced mistrust in negotiating with America. The source added these five conditions "together were exclusively defined to establish the minimum trust to return to the path of dialogue." He concluded that Tehran believes "without practical verification of these conditions, there will be no possibility to enter new negotiations." Notably, the only indirect negotiation round between Iran and the US, held in Islamabad on April 11-13, 2026, ended without progress. Iran sent Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf to lead its delegation, while Vice President JD Vance headed the US delegation. Since then, no new rounds have been held as Iran maintains its refusal to negotiate before sanctions are lifted and real guarantees provided, while Washington hints at resuming military strikes.
