Field developments and security dossiers in the Iraqi scene come to shed light once again on the importance of verifying information before circulating it, and in this context, the Media Security Cell issued an official clarification on Monday to respond to what has been recently circulated via media outlets and social media platforms regarding statements attributed to a politician, which included allegations claiming the release of large numbers of individuals classified as terrorists from some correctional institutions and prisons in the governorates of Erbil and Dohuk and transferring them towards Kirkuk governorate. The official clarification indicated that what was mentioned in those alleged statements was not based, according to available official data, on any statement or position issued by the competent Iraqi security authorities, with the categorical confirmation that no evidence has been proven so far to confirm the validity of these claims. In a related context, the cell stressed that the competent security and intelligence apparatuses continue around the clock to monitor everything related to terrorist threats and the movements of wanted elements to justice, pointing out that all security information is subject to strict auditing operations and careful verification of its sources before adopting or announcing it to public opinion. The official authorities confirmed that military units and security forces in their various branches and formations continue to perform their sacred tasks and duties in pursuing the remnants of terrorist organizations and cutting off any activity that could threaten the security and safety of citizens, noting that they enjoy a very high level of readiness and complete vigilance to deal decisively with any emergency or potential threat. In conclusion, the security authorities directed an explicit call to all citizens not to be dragged behind unverified news, rumors, and information, and the necessity of relying exclusively on statements issued by the competent official authorities as the sole source of security information, stressing that the security of citizens and the stability of the country remains a national responsibility undertaken exclusively by state institutions. It also called on various media outlets and social media platforms to exercise the utmost degree of accuracy and national responsibility when circulating any information of a security nature, due to its pivotal and vital role in maintaining community peace, reassuring the street, and avoiding stirring up public opinion or confusing it.
