Agriculture Ministry Caps Meat Prices at Seventeen Thousand Dinars

As part of official efforts to stabilize local food markets and ease consumer living costs, the Ministry of Agriculture announced on Sunday that meat prices in hypermarket branches and cooperative outlets have been fixed at 17,000 dinars per kilogram, following a government decision coordinated with the Ministry of Trade. Ministry spokesman Qusay al-Hattab affirmed that all meat offered at these designated outlets undergoes rigorous veterinary inspection and bears official certification stamps from veterinary department specialists. To reinforce price compliance, specialized inspection teams conduct daily field tours across key Baghdad commercial markets, including Allawi Zuwaini, Jamila, and Dora. The teams submit regular monitoring reports to relevant authorities, while official updated prices are published daily on the ministry website. Furthermore, al-Hattab highlighted that the ministry actively monitors complaints from citizens on social media and news outlets regarding unjustified price hikes. Security forces play an essential coordinating role in pursuing market violations. The ministry plans to intensify field inspections soon to restore market equilibrium.
