Apple Inc. officially unveiled the 'iPhone Duo,' its first foldable iPhone, marking a significant shift as the biggest design change to its phones in nearly two decades. This launch heralds a new era of innovation in mobile devices. The 'iPhone Duo' features a unique titanium design, becoming the thinnest iPhone ever when unfolded. It simultaneously boasts the largest screen offered in an iPhone device to date, yet is considered the smallest iPhone in terms of overall footprint within its category. Its innovative foldable screen provides a 50% larger display area compared to the iPhone 18 Pro Max, complemented by a 5.4-inch external screen. Apple plans to integrate Apple Pencil support in the future. The device, approximately passport-sized, incorporates two screens – an internal and an external one – allowing it to be used as a traditional phone when closed or as an expanded display when opened. Apple announced that the 'iPhone Duo' will start at $1999 for the 256GB version, aligning with recent leaks. The price for the 2TB version has not yet been revealed. The company set October 16 as the date to begin accepting pre-orders for this anticipated device. For his part, John Ternus, Apple's CEO, affirmed that the larger screen will unlock new possibilities for daily uses of a pivotal device in users' lives. He elaborated: "For a device that plays a pivotal role in your life, a larger screen will unlock entirely new capabilities. And we believe the best way to do that is with a foldable design." Ternus also criticized competing foldable phone designs, describing some as looking like "two phones awkwardly stuck together," emphasizing Apple's pursuit of a cohesive and distinct experience.
