Bafel Talabani Announces Withdrawal from Regional Government and Threatens to Form Independent Entity

Bafel Talabani, leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, announced on Thursday his party's decision to withdraw from the Kurdistan Regional Government and not to recognize the parliamentary session in which the presidency council was elected, nor any of its outcomes. In a televised speech, Talabani stated that the party's leadership council authorized him to make decisions on this matter, with the first decision being non-recognition of the session and its results. He described the current government as a caretaker administration for two years, criticizing its service delivery and pointing out disparities in oil and gasoline prices between the region and Baghdad. Talabani affirmed that his party will utilize its capabilities to serve the populations in areas under its influence, noting procedural violations in holding the session and stating that the steps taken by the Kurdistan Democratic Party will not achieve the desired outcomes, despite congratulations from several countries following the session. He threatened to establish parallel institutions in his party's areas of influence, with the possibility of appointing a regional president, forming a government, and naming ministers in these areas if the Kurdistan Democratic Party continues similar steps across the region. At the same time, he emphasized his rejection of violence or bloodshed.
