The Baghdad Provincial Council announced on Monday details concerning the capital's daily gasoline requirement, which ranges between 9 and 12 million liters. The council confirmed the imminent arrival of imported fuel shipments aimed at compensating for the current supply shortage. Ali Al-Zarkani, a council member and head of the Energy Committee in Rusafa, clarified that the country's recurring fuel crisis primarily stems from a mismatch between local production and growing consumption rates. Al-Zarkani added that Baghdad alone accounts for approximately one-third of the total national fuel consumption. He noted that Iraqi provinces collectively consume about 30 million liters daily, with quantities significantly increasing during summer peak periods, potentially reaching 35 million liters. To address the crisis, Al-Zarkani stated that coordination with the Ministry of Oil is underway to investigate supply deficit reasons. He revealed existing fuel imports from a neighboring country, with an additional shipment from the United Arab Emirates expected soon to bridge the local market gap and meet citizens' needs.
