Ministry of Construction Targets Year-End for Third Strategic Bridge Linking Two-Story and Suspension Bridges

The Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Public Municipalities announced on Monday its target to complete the third bridge within the project linking the Two-Story Bridge to the Suspension Bridge by the end of the current year. In this context, the Director General of Roads and Bridges at the Ministry, Ammar Adel Hussein Al-Maliki, reported that the pace of work on the Two-Story Bridge to Suspension Bridge linking project is accelerating, with advanced completion rates achieved. He emphasized expediting the third bridge's construction, which extends from Al-Tabaqeen roundabout to the Green Zone, to bring it into actual service by year-end as part of the first phase. Al-Maliki affirmed the ongoing work's current focus on executing this third bridge, connecting the Two-Story Bridge towards the Green Zone. He urged working in two shifts to ensure completion within the specified timeframe and according to the latest approved technical specifications, implemented for the first time in Iraq. Al-Maliki highlighted the project's significance as a new strategic axis linking Karkh and Rusafa via the Dora-Yusufiyah expressway, which will significantly contribute to alleviating traffic bottlenecks at Al-Tabaqeen Square, Karrada, and surrounding areas. Regarding engineering details, Al-Maliki indicated that the total length of the flyover, including the two bridges crossing the Tigris River, is 1800 meters, with 110 meters spanning over the river basin starting from its connection point with the Two-Story Bridge. The main flyover comprises 36 completed concrete spans, while the two bridges adjacent to the Suspension Bridge consist of 24 spans, with 12 spans allocated to each.
