Border Clashes Between Border Guards and Arms Smugglers

Clashes erupted along the border between Sulaymaniyah province and Iran, where border guards confronted an armed group attempting to smuggle a shipment of weapons into Iranian territory. The commander of the border guards in Kurdistan province, Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Hatami, stated that his forces received intelligence about smugglers intending to transport weapons into the country. After tracking the smugglers and pinpointing their entry location, the forces engaged them, forcing them to flee under the pressure of gunfire from the border guards. During the operation, the forces seized 20 Kalashnikov rifles with folding stocks and 40 ammunition magazines. General Hatami emphasized that identifying and arresting the suspects is a priority for security forces, stressing that securing the border strip and combating arms smuggling are top priorities for the border guards in the province.
