In a move reinforcing regional strategic ties, Egypt's National Defense Council approved deploying Egyptian military forces to Saudi Arabia for a defensive mission aimed at protecting the Kingdom’s security and stability. The decision, made during an urgent meeting chaired by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Sunday morning, is set to be submitted to the House of Representatives for constitutional authorization. The gathering at Al-Ittihadiya Palace included the Speaker of Parliament, the Prime Minister, the Ministers of Defense and Foreign Affairs, alongside senior security and military officials. Discussions centered on rapid regional developments and prevailing security challenges, with the council affirming Cairo’s full solidarity with Riyadh based on historical ties and the shared national security binding Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the Arab region. Furthermore, the council resolved to extend all possible support to safeguard Saudi territorial integrity, vital resources, and Islamic holy sites. Simultaneously, it emphasized sustained diplomatic and political efforts with international partners to de-escalate regional tensions through peaceful means, while leaving details regarding force numbers, deployment dates, and field missions unspecified pending parliamentary review.
