Decisive Political Understanding in Kurdistan: KDP to Lead Government, PUK and New Generation Get Three Ministries

A high-ranking leadership source within the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) revealed on Thursday that a decisive and final meeting occurred in Sulaymaniyah between the PUK and the New Generation Movement leaderships. The meeting aimed to finalize a comprehensive agreement on power-sharing and responsibilities within their new alliance, following approval from the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in Erbil. This agreement stipulates the new alliance's support for the KDP to lead the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). In return, three crucial and pivotal ministerial portfolios will be allocated to the PUK and the New Generation Movement in the upcoming cabinet distribution. This understanding is anticipated to end the region's political deadlock, facilitating all parties' movement to the capital, Erbil, for the first session of the regional parliament and the official commencement of new government formation procedures.
