Electricity Minister Discusses New Loan Priorities with World Bank, Urges Funding for Improved Supply

Iraq's Minister of Electricity, Ali Saadi Waheeb, today, Wednesday, discussed with the World Bank the priorities for projects proposed under the new loan. Minister Waheeb received the Director of the World Bank office in Iraq, Emmanuel Salinas Munoz, and his accompanying delegation at his office at the Ministry's headquarters. The meeting addressed the status of ongoing projects under the current loan. The two sides also discussed the priorities of projects proposed for inclusion in the new funding, which aim to address bottlenecks in the electricity transmission system, enhance network efficiency, and strengthen its capacity to deliver power to demand centers. Additionally, projects related to gas supplies and Gulf electricity interconnection plans were reviewed. The Minister emphasized the importance of directing funding towards projects with a direct impact on developing the electricity sector's infrastructure, thereby supporting the Ministry's plans to improve system efficiency and enhance supply levels.
