Electricity Ministry Issues Guidelines for Connecting Solar Energy Systems to National Grid

The Ministry of Electricity announced the completion of drafting regulations for connecting solar energy systems to the national electrical grid, aiming to promote renewable energy use and reduce financial burdens on citizens. This follows a Cabinet decision issued yesterday, which included the removal of customs duties on imported solar energy systems, supporting the shift towards clean energy and lowering acquisition costs. The decision was based on an official proposal submitted by the Minister of Electricity, Ali Saadi Wahib, to the Prime Minister, requesting the reduction of customs duties on solar systems and components to encourage citizen adoption. The ministry stated that it has prepared a draft regulation consisting of 40 articles to organize the mechanisms for connecting and exchanging electrical energy between citizens and the national grid. Once approved, these regulations will allow citizens to connect their solar systems using smart meters, contributing to lowering electricity bills according to the amount of energy exchanged. Furthermore, the ministry has contacted the State Council to finalize the legal drafting of the regulations before submitting them to the Cabinet for official approval. These measures are part of ongoing efforts to enhance reliance on renewable energy, reduce loads on the national grid, and improve the efficiency of the electrical system.
