EU Commends Pakistan's Diplomatic Efforts to Prevent US-Iran Full-Scale War

The European Union has praised Pakistan's pivotal role in mediating efforts between the United States and Iran, commending Islamabad's contributions that helped avert the outbreak of a full-scale war in the region. This statement came from the European Union's foreign policy official, Kaja Kallas, during a joint press conference held with Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, following the conclusion of the 8th EU-Pakistan Strategic Dialogue. Kallas clarified that "Pakistani diplomatic efforts helped prevent a comprehensive war from breaking out on several occasions," asserting that these endeavors are highly appreciated across the European continent. Kallas described Pakistan as a "major regional power and an important partner for the European Union," reaffirming the shared commitment to strengthening relations between both sides during the strategic dialogue. It is worth noting that Islamabad has made diligent efforts over the past months to bridge viewpoints between Washington and Tehran and narrow their differences, aiming to reach an agreement that would end the conflict which erupted on February 28. Pakistan hosted direct and lengthy negotiations involving delegations from Iran and America in early April, though these did not yield tangible results. Despite this, Pakistani officials, led by Army Chief Asim Munir, continued their diplomatic endeavors, visiting Tehran multiple times to convey American proposals and strive to overcome obstacles. Although a framework agreement to end the war is nearing completion, these efforts have not yet fully come to fruition. The atmosphere had been largely positive recently, with the announcement of an imminent agreement appearing close. However, American officials indicated that U.S. President Donald Trump introduced several modifications to the latest proposal under discussion between the two sides.
