In a context related to economic and financial affairs, Iraqi government spokesman Haider Al-Aboudi announced on Wednesday the existence of a carefully drafted government plan aimed at bringing the parallel market dollar exchange rate down to 1550 dinars, noting that previous financial transfers predating the current exchange rate have had their allocations secured based on the former rate. Al-Aboudi explained that government authorities and the Central Bank of Iraq are cooperating within a well-studied strategy to reach the targeted value for the US currency in the parallel market in the near term. He added that this regulatory path relies on providing sufficient and secured balances at the central bank, granting the ability to finance foreign trade with high fluidity and meet various import requirements. Regarding previous financial files, he pointed out that necessary financial coverage has been secured to complete transactions that preceded the adoption of the current exchange rate, in commitment to fulfilling related obligations. Concluding the statements, he noted the Council of Ministers' decision issued during its twenty-third session exempting imported medicines and foodstuffs from customs duties starting from October 7, 2026.
