High-Level Security Meeting Boosts Readiness for Prison and Correctional Facility Protection

Baghdad witnessed a high-level security meeting today, Sunday, involving Minister of Justice Khaled Shawani and Head of the National Security Agency Basim Al-Badri. The meeting focused on discussing ways to enhance cooperation and coordination in the file of protecting prisons and correctional facilities, aiming to raise their security readiness. In detailing the meeting, the Minister of Justice received the Head of the National Security Agency at the Ministry's headquarters. Mechanisms to strengthen coordination between the two sides were discussed. Talks specifically addressed the protection and securing of correctional institutions, besides reinforcing existing security measures to maintain the safety and security of prisons, inmates, and staff. The meeting also included discussing several files of mutual interest and reviewing methods for developing security coordination and exchanging information with the security intelligence center. These efforts aim to contribute to raising readiness and enhancing preventive measures within correctional institutions. Minister Shawani, for his part, stressed the ongoing importance of cooperation and coordination between the two parties in this vital and sensitive file. He indicated that "the protection of correctional institutions represents a fundamental pillar in the security system, given its direct impact on protecting society and fostering security and stability." Concluding the meeting, the Head of the National Security Agency, Basim Al-Badri, commended the Ministry of Justice's efforts in improving correctional facilities and their preventive measures. Al-Badri affirmed the agency's commitment to continuing joint cooperation and coordination with the Ministry to serve the public interest.
