As part of expanding efforts to combat transnational drug trafficking networks, close intelligence and security coordination between specialized authorities in Iraq and Libya succeeded in thwarting the smuggling of 1.2 million Captagon pills on Libyan territory, leading to the arrest of a Libyan national. The Directorate General for Narcotics Affairs and Psychotropic Substances stated that the joint operation was carried out in direct coordination with Libya’s National Anti-Narcotics Agency, based on precise intelligence data gathered and exchanged through the directorate’s international cooperation division. The exchanged intelligence enabled the formulation and careful execution of an operational plan alongside Libyan counterparts, ultimately foiling the illicit shipment and apprehending the suspect. The directorate affirmed that this achievement underscores the vital importance of cross-border security partnerships in confronting organized crime rings and dismantling trafficking pipelines before achieving their destructive goals.
