The Ministry of Interior announced on Wednesday the arrest of wanted individuals and the seizure of unlicensed weapons in the Rusafa side of Baghdad. This security operation comes as part of the Ministry's ongoing efforts to enhance security performance and enforce the rule of law across the country. Detailing the operation, Colonel Mohammed Ali Al-Hassoun, the official spokesperson for the Ministry, stated that the Baghdad Rusafa Police Command carried out a proactive security exercise and inspection campaign in the Al-Nairiyah area. This campaign involved the participation of several security, intelligence, and support formations, conducted under the continuous supervision and follow-up of the Ministry's Senior Undersecretary. The campaign specifically aimed at pursuing wanted individuals and addressing violations, including the possession of unlicensed weapons. The operation resulted in the arrest of individuals wanted under articles (28) related to narcotics and (456) of the Penal Code, alongside the detention of eight persons for violating residency conditions. Furthermore, a store selling alcoholic beverages operating in violation of regulations was seized. In a related development, four individuals found with unlicensed weapons were apprehended, and the seizures included two Kalashnikov rifles and two pistols. Al-Hassoun clarified that all arrested individuals have been placed in custody for necessary legal procedures to be taken against them. He also commended the significant efforts made by the participating security formations in the successful execution of this security exercise.
