Tehran has blamed the United States for the disruption of commercial navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, indicating Washington's attempt to attribute the crisis, which it claims began on February 28, to Iran. In this context, Esmaeil Baghaee, spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, stated via an "X" post that the Strait was "fully open" until February 28, a date he described as the start of a "United States and Israel attack" on his country. He explained this disrupted normal commercial shipping in the region, causing tanker stoppages, trade disturbances, and rising energy prices. Baghaee accused Washington of attempting to present the world with the bill for current disruptions, while placing responsibility on Iran. He indicated the American narrative portrays the war, which he claims the U.S. started, as a result of Iranian behavior, asserting Washington "started the war and expects the whole world to pay the bill, while depicting Iran as the one who caused this chaos." These remarks come amidst mutual accusations between Washington and Tehran regarding responsibility for disrupting navigation in this crucial global oil transit waterway.
