Iranian Ambassador Affirms Baghdad Growing Capability to Bridge Views Among Islamic Nations

Within the context of ongoing diplomatic momentum to strengthen bilateral relations and regional consultation, the Iranian Ambassador to Iraq, Mohammad Kazem Al-Sadeq, affirmed that Baghdad now possesses a clearly growing capability to exercise an effective mediation role and bridge differing perspectives among Islamic nations, emphasizing in this regard the high importance acquired by the Iraqi capital hosting the fifty-second session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. Speaking about the participation of the high-level Iranian delegation in the OIC foreign ministers meeting held in Baghdad under the chairmanship of Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Al-Sadeq explained that holding bilateral and multilateral consultations with foreign ministers of Islamic countries on the sidelines of these meetings represents a top priority for the Iranian delegation, with the aim of enhancing direct communication channels, correcting any potential misunderstandings, and continuing to push multilateral cooperation projects toward executive fruition. The ambassador pointed out that the agenda of the Islamic Republic of Iran is fundamentally based on three main strategic pillars, represented by the comprehensive condemnation of ongoing aggression and confronting it by all means, enhancing regional security and stability away from any foreign interventions, and consolidating economic and technological rapprochement among various Islamic countries. He added that the Iranian foreign minister will review during the meetings his country's firm positions regarding recent developments and attacks targeting territorial integrity and the Islamic nation, while putting forward practical proposals to enhance the organization's support for the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples, and conducting extensive consultations to overcome misunderstandings and follow up on joint cooperation projects. Regarding the significance of the frequent visits by the Iranian foreign minister to Iraq and their role in boosting bilateral relations, Al-Sadeq stressed that these visits carry a clear political message embodying the strategic depth and high priority that Iranian foreign policy attaches to relations with Baghdad, noting that they go beyond traditional protocol frameworks to reflect continuous diplomatic dynamism in managing relations between the two neighboring countries. He pointed out that this dynamism has yielded tangible results represented by the conclusion and implementation of comprehensive agreements in security, judicial, and economic fields, in addition to accelerating infrastructure and transport projects and achieving integration in border management and air and land security, which has elevated relations to the level of comprehensive and institutional strategic cooperation. Concerning the importance of the Baghdad meeting, the Iranian ambassador affirmed that it acquires extreme strategic importance in light of the urgent need to formulate a unified Islamic stance to face threats and aggression, explaining that Baghdad hosting this ministerial session after a long hiatus exceeding four decades comes at an extremely sensitive time amid intertwined challenges and crises witnessed by the Islamic world. He pointed out that foreign interventions and attacks were not limited to undermining regional stability, but extended to pose a direct threat to the national security of Islamic countries and their economic stability, warning that the expansion of crises from the Palestinian cause and the situations in Lebanon and Syria to Sudan and Afghanistan affirms the necessity of rapprochement, as the absence of coordination grants aggressor parties an opportunity to expand their interventions. Regarding the slogan of the session, represented by dialogue and solidarity as two fundamental pillars to enhance peace and sustainable development, Al-Sadeq affirmed that the slogan is a strategic necessity whose goals require moving dialogue from formal diplomatic framing to the level of effective joint action. Regarding the expected role of the rotating Iraqi presidency, he affirmed that it represents a real opportunity to consolidate Baghdad's diplomatic standing and restore its pivotal regional role, expressing his country's full support for the success of this presidency in leading the organization toward effective executive decisions.
