Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian affirmed on Thursday that achieving Islamic unity requires respecting the sovereignty of Muslim nations and fostering cooperation among them, unequivocally rejecting any threat to the security of Islamic states and peoples. Addressing the 40th International Conference on Islamic Unity in Tehran, Pezeshkian explained that the Islamic world faces exceptional circumstances, emphasizing that disagreements should not escalate into division or hostility. He added that Islamic unity means defending truth, supporting the oppressed, and preventing oppression, noting that Muslim countries possess vast capabilities, yet these are underutilized for fostering unity and cooperation. The Iranian President stressed that the Islamic Ummah will only achieve independence and dignity through cooperation, urging stronger partnerships in technology, science, trade, and economics. He highlighted that trade between Islamic countries currently does not exceed 19 percent. Regarding security, Pezeshkian stated his country's commitment to defending its sovereignty and independence, deeming this a legitimate right that does not imply hostility towards other Islamic or neighboring countries. He asserted that neighbors should not participate in any aggression against Iran. He underscored the paramount importance of prioritizing regional security and respecting Muslim states' sovereignty, reiterating that "unity is more obligatory than prayer and fasting," and Iran's stand against injustice "is a duty, not a favor." He concluded that shared faith and prophethood among Islamic nations mandate joint action to enhance unity and cooperation across various fields.
