Iraq Adopts Coexistence Strategy for Hormuz Crisis, Plans Alternative Routes to Secure Oil Exports

Prime Minister's advisor, Mazhar Mohammed Saleh, revealed on Monday a new Iraqi strategy for managing geopolitical tensions in the Strait of Hormuz. Saleh affirmed Iraq has shifted from repelling the crisis to coexisting with and containing it, actively seeking to secure oil exports via alternative routes away from the strait. He explained the current government inherited a major external crisis due to Hormuz's geopolitical situation, prompting the state to develop alternative pipelines and new marketing channels. This move aims to redirect Iraq's oil policy and marketing towards destinations insulated from potential regional conflicts. He clarified that should the strait's crisis persist, Iraq plans to secure oil exports via neighboring regions, as part of a strategy to establish new "oil fortresses." Iraq aims to guarantee exporting 3.4 million barrels per day – a volume 80-85% previously shipped via Hormuz – now fully through these alternative regional routes.
