Iraqi Government Highlights Importance of Securing Mount Sinjar and Empowering Army to Enforce State Authority

The spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces confirmed that the federal government continues to address the reconstruction of Sinjar district, compensating victims' families, and accelerating the return of displaced persons to their homes. The Sinjar file remains an exclusive responsibility of the federal government and security leadership. He noted that specialized committees are working under the directives of the Prime Minister, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, to complete the project of consolidating weapons under state control. The security measures implemented in Sinjar were entirely military and under the full authority of the federal government. These measures included integrating and organizing the Sinjar Protection Units into the official Iraqi Armed Forces, handing over their positions in the Mount Sinjar area to the Iraqi army units and other military formations according to their duties and specializations. This file is considered an exclusive task of the government and federal security leadership. Additionally, the federal government, in coordination with the local government in Sinjar, continues to work on reconstruction, compensating victims' families, expediting the return of displaced persons, and ending their suffering in displacement camps, aiming toward electing a local government that represents and gains the approval of the district's residents. The government and armed forces reaffirmed their commitment to dedicating all security and administrative capabilities to serve the residents, emphasizing that empowering the Iraqi army and other armed forces, and establishing full control including the takeover of Mount Sinjar areas, constitutes the fundamental pillar for extending state authority, law enforcement, and sovereignty in the district. They also expressed full openness to addressing challenges related to weapon consolidation and managing security elements in line with the supreme national interest and applicable laws.
