At the meeting's outset, the Iraqi Parliament Speaker welcomed the delegation, underscoring the importance of elevating bilateral ties between Iraq and Iran and expanding cooperation across sectors, particularly parliamentary. Al-Halbousi emphasized the need to revitalize friendship committees, enhance parliamentary diplomacy, and broaden cooperation to serve the higher interests of both neighboring nations, noting Iraq's significant impact from regional developments. The Iraqi Parliament Speaker called for consideration of the historical bonds linking Iraq and Iran, urging a special status for Iraq in oil exports via the Strait of Hormuz, thereby safeguarding its vital economic interests. For his part, the Speaker of the Iranian Shura Council, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, expressed gratitude to Iraq on behalf of Iran's Council, government, and people. He affirmed Tehran's commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation in various fields, notably trade and economics.
