On Friday, Kazakhstan's Ministry of Internal Affairs announced the arrest of five Ministry of Defense officials, including the First Deputy Commander of the Navy. This action follows a naval training incident the previous day that tragically claimed the lives of 14 soldiers, swept out to sea by strong waves. The Kazakh Ministry of Defense had confirmed on Thursday that 14 military personnel died after being carried into the open sea during those drills. The Ministry's statement specified the tragic event occurred in the Mangistau region of western Kazakhstan, which borders the Caspian Sea. In response to the tragedy, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev declared September 25th a day of national mourning, extending his heartfelt condolences to the victims' families.
