Minister of Health Expands Free Health Insurance Coverage for Six Vital Categories and Procedures

Minister of Health, Abdul Hussein Al-Mousawi, issued a directive today, Monday, to integrate six categories and specific diagnostic and therapeutic procedures into the free health insurance system. This move is part of the ongoing implementation of the Health Insurance Law, aimed at ensuring high-quality services for all societal groups, particularly low-income individuals. The decision seeks to ease the financial burden on citizens facing covered medical conditions, preventing strain on their resources. The Ministry confirmed that the Minister, who also chairs the Health Insurance Authority, mandated this inclusion for categories and procedures previously not covered. Among the newly covered services are kidney and liver transplant operations for both donors and recipients, brain catheterization procedures, and open-heart surgeries. Additionally, the free insurance extends to kidney failure patients and includes PET scans for those suffering from cancer.
