Minister of Health Abdul Hussein Al-Mousawi announced on Tuesday the initiation of renovation work for five major hospitals in Baghdad, funded directly by Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi at his personal expense, as part of an initiative to bolster the healthcare sector. In detail, the Prime Minister's contribution includes a donation of two million US dollars to the Ministry of Health for the provision of a specific medicine, for which no prior financial allocation existed. Additionally, Al-Zaidi personally covered the renovation costs for the identified hospitals, estimated at 47 billion Iraqi Dinars, in the absence of government appropriations. The hospitals covered are Baghdad Hospital in Medical City, Al-Kadhimiya, Al-Kindi, Al-Yarmouk, and Al-Zaafaraniya, with specialized teams having already commenced the renovation operations. Al-Mousawi clarified that highlighting these initiatives aims to encourage other parties to contribute to supporting the health sector. He also noted the cooperation of the Private Hospitals Association, which increased the number of free surgical operations provided monthly from four to ten, reflecting growing support for medical services.
