The Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Public Municipalities announced the closure of the Transport Ministry tunnel in Baghdad for 30 days, starting from Sunday evening, to carry out maintenance and rehabilitation works. The ministry's statement clarified that the closure will be complete and coordinated with the General Traffic Directorate, allowing technical and engineering teams to perform maintenance and rehabilitation according to approved technical specifications. The works include maintenance and rehabilitation of the tunnel located on the Army Canal Road in the outbound lane towards Baghdad Tourist Island, as part of the second package of projects aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in the capital. The statement urged drivers to use the upper road above the tunnel as an alternative route for vehicles coming from the New Baghdad area towards the Engineers area, emphasizing adherence to traffic signals and instructions to ensure safety and smooth traffic flow.
