The U.S. space agency, NASA, launched its "Roman" space telescope on Sunday into space, embarking on an ambitious mission to create a new cosmic map and contribute to unraveling some of the biggest mysteries in astrophysics, including the nature of dark matter and dark energy. The telescope successfully lifted off aboard a Falcon Heavy rocket, operated by SpaceX, from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, southeastern United States. The development of "Roman" spanned over a decade and incurred costs exceeding four billion U.S. dollars. This new telescope boasts a field of view more than 100 times wider than that of the Hubble Space Telescope, enabling it to efficiently survey vast expanses of the sky. Roman is planned to operate from a location approximately 1.5 million kilometers from Earth, where it is expected to discover thousands of exoplanets and tens of thousands of supernovae. Furthermore, it will conduct in-depth studies of dark matter and dark energy, which are believed to constitute about 95% of the universe's total composition.
