In a new development within the ongoing financial dispute between French star Kylian Mbappé and his former club, Paris Saint-Germain, the Paris Court of Appeal has issued a ruling compelling the current Real Madrid forward to pay €60,000 to the Parisian club. This decision comes as a consequence of a previous case involving the freezing of the club's bank accounts by the player's representatives. The precautionary seizure of Paris Saint-Germain's funds was initiated by Mbappé's representatives, as reported by the French newspaper "L'Equipe," as part of the broader legal conflict over the player's financial dues. This freeze, amounting to €55 million, remained in effect from April 10 to May 25, 2025. For its part, Paris Saint-Germain's management argued before the court that the freezing of its bank accounts posed a direct threat to its ability to meet various financial obligations towards sports bodies. The club had warned of potential severe penalties from the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), including restrictions on registering new players. The roots of the case trace back to Mbappé's demand that the Parisian club settle financial dues exceeding €60 million, encompassing unpaid salaries and bonuses. In a related context, a labor court had previously ruled in December, ordering Paris Saint-Germain to pay approximately €61 million to the player. It is worth noting that Kylian Mbappé departed Paris Saint-Germain to join Real Madrid in the summer of 2024, following the conclusion of his contract and tenure with the French club.
