Satellite imagery has revealed an oil spill from a sanctioned tanker off the Omani coast, with the oil slick significantly expanding in recent days. This leakage raises growing concerns about potential environmental damage to coastal areas, according to specialized analysis of satellite images and assessments by shipping industry experts. Vessel tracking data indicates that the tanker in question, named "Caroline B", had loaded a cargo of Russian oil from the port of Novorossiysk on the Black Sea before embarking on its latest voyage. According to informed sources in maritime security, the tanker first reported encountering a problem off Yemen's Al Mukalla port on June 8, with initial assessments at the time pointing to an onboard explosion, though its cause remains unclear. A satellite image captured on July 28 showed a dark oil slick surrounding the tanker, in addition to oil traces north of Qibliya Island, which is close to the Omani coast and located within a designated protected marine area. Wim Zwijnenburg, a remote sensing expert at the Dutch organization PAX, stated that the images suggest one of the tanker's oil storage hulls was breached, leading to the crude oil leaking into the sea.
