Parliamentary Action to Discuss Exchange Rate Adjustments with Financial Officials

Amid recent economic developments concerning the country's monetary policy, the political scene witnessed a prominent parliamentary move to examine the background of the latest financial decisions. In this context, official directives were issued to hold an expanded hosting session involving key economic and financial figures to discuss this vital file. The parliament's media department confirmed that the parliament presidency issued directives to host the Central Bank Governor and the Minister of Finance tomorrow, Thursday, to deliberate extensively on the reasons for adjusting the local currency's value and the repercussions of this step on the general landscape. This parliamentary move comes following the Central Bank of Iraq's announcement earlier on Wednesday regarding a package of amendments concerning the exchange rate of the Iraqi dinar against the US currency, scheduled to take effect starting October 7, 2026. The adjustments included setting the purchase rate of the dollar from the Ministry of Finance at 1,500 dinars, while the selling rate to banks was set at 1,510 dinars, and the cash selling rate of the dollar to the public reached 1,520 dinars per US dollar.
