Pistorius: Germany Ready to Secure Hormuz Navigation via Expanding "Aspides" Mission for 2026

As part of 2026 international efforts to reopen global trade routes, Berlin revealed a plan to send an advanced minesweeper to participate in clearing the Strait of Hormuz of war obstacles. A German defense spokesperson explained that the ship "Fulda" will soon be stationed in the Mediterranean to gain "valuable time" before moving to the Gulf. This initiative coincides with reports of preliminary U.S.-Iranian cooperation in demining, as "non-belligerent" countries seek to provide a neutral contribution ensuring the flow of oil and LNG without military restrictions, provided the necessary legal and parliamentary cover is available.
