WhatsApp revealed the discovery of a fake version of its app used to spy on users, notifying around 200 affected individuals.
Most cases were reported in Italy, where users were deceived into downloading the malicious application.
The company said its security team acted quickly to protect users and urged them to remove unofficial apps and rely on the official version.
