The Commander of Diyala Operations for the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), Talib al-Mousawi, announced today, Monday, the launch of a wide-scale security operation in the Thallab Basin area, located southwest of Khanqin district in Diyala province. This operation primarily aims to thwart the movements of ISIS terrorist elements and prevent them from establishing any new hideouts or outposts within the region, which is considered a strategic point in counter-terrorism efforts. In a statement released by him, al-Mousawi clarified that the operation commenced at 6:00 AM this Monday and is currently being executed across three main axes. It involves active participation from the First Division of the Iraqi Army, alongside several brigades from the Popular Mobilization Forces, bolstered by support from various specialized units within the security forces. Al-Mousawi detailed the participating axes; the Iraqi Army is leading the first axis, moving from southwest Khanqin towards the Balkana Pass. The second axis sees a joint effort between Iraqi Army forces and the PMF's 110th Brigade, initiating their advance from the Kani Masi area. The third axis is being implemented by the PMF's 24th Brigade, starting from the intersection of the Destroyed Mosque, and includes the participation of various support units such as artillery, field engineering, explosives experts, intelligence, and other command formations and specialties. Concluding his statement, al-Mousawi affirmed that the operation is progressing well and effectively thus far, noting that the participating forces are continuing their comprehensive search and sweep operations in all targeted areas. It is expected that all details and final results of the operation will be announced at a later time, following the completion of the assigned tasks.
