As part of ongoing government efforts to consolidate internal stability and reorganize security roles, Lieutenant General Abdul Amir al-Shammari, Director of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, chaired a high-level security meeting in Baghdad on Monday. The expanded meeting, which included an elite group of security leaders and officials, featured in-depth discussions on completing the requirements for transferring responsibility for the security file within cities from Ministry of Defense units to Ministry of Interior formations. The gathering also saw the participation of operations, police, and security leaders from the governorates of Holy Karbala, Basra, and Maysan via video conference. Field plans and executive mechanisms for smoothly concluding handover procedures were reviewed. Additionally, the readiness of the concerned units was assessed to ensure a seamless transition and efficient management of security control within governorate centers and cities. This meeting is held within the framework of government directives and strategic plans to redistribute responsibilities between security and military agencies. The transition aims for the Ministry of Interior to manage the internal security file and enhance stability, while the Ministry of Defense focuses its tasks on protecting national borders and securing strategic objectives.
