The Ministry of Peshmerga affirmed on Monday that the impending withdrawal of U.S. forces from the Kurdistan Region raises significant concern, while simultaneously asserting its full readiness to protect the region and its people from any potential threats. This planned withdrawal, set to be completed by September 30, stems from mutual understandings between the Iraqi federal government, the United States, and its allies. However, the Ministry views this timing as highly sensitive, particularly given the unstable security situation in Iraq and the Middle East. In a related context, a statement from the Ministry recalled events in the Kurdistan Region during the U.S.-Iran conflict in recent months, when it was subjected to over a thousand drone and ballistic missile attacks. Some of these attacks targeted civilian areas, resulting in casualties, injuries, and material losses. Therefore, the departure of U.S. forces without securing an adequate defensive system raises considerable apprehension.
