Civil Defense Responds to Student Suffocation Cases from Blackboard Paint Fumes in Maysan

The Civil Defense Directorate in Maysan province announced on Tuesday that it responded to mild suffocation cases among several female students at a school located in Al-Cairo Al-Thaniya neighborhood in the city center. The cause was fumes emitted from black paint used on the classroom blackboard. The directorate explained that the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) response team promptly intervened to handle the incident affecting students from two classes. The affected students were transported to the hospital for precautionary medical examinations. It was confirmed that all students were discharged after their health was verified, and they returned to their classrooms to continue their studies. The results of the inspection and technical examination, using the CBRN team's sensors, indicated that the initial findings pointed to suffocation cases caused by volatile carbon compounds released from the black paint applied to the blackboard drawings in the two mentioned classes.
