The Federal Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, on Tuesday, reached an agreement with the Ministry of Higher Education in the Kurdistan Regional Government to increase reciprocal student admission seats to 1250. This agreement followed an extensive meeting held as a continuation of the scientific and strategic cooperation between the two ministries. The meeting was chaired by Undersecretary for Scientific Affairs, Haidar Abd Dhahd, and attended by Sabah Ibrahim Weiss, Advisor to the KRG Ministry of Higher Education, alongside the Directors-General of the Departments of Studies, Planning and Follow-up, Scholarships and Cultural Relations, and Research and Development from both sides. During the meeting, attendees discussed scientific files of common interest and explored mechanisms to enhance academic cooperation, in addition to addressing administrative and technical obstacles that might impede the completion of reciprocal admission procedures and degree equivalency between the two parties. The meeting resulted in an agreement to expand reciprocal admission opportunities for students for the upcoming academic year. For undergraduate studies, accepted seats were increased from 400 to 1000 students, while for postgraduate studies, seats were raised from 100 to 250 students, encompassing applicants from both sides. Both parties affirmed the importance of continuing scientific and academic coordination and facilitating procedures related to admission and certificates. They stressed that these efforts serve students and support the ongoing cooperation between higher education institutions in the Federal Government and the Kurdistan Regional Government.
