The General Directorate of Traffic is preparing to receive 80 additional radars soon, a step aimed at enhancing its monitoring system and activating a comprehensive speed limit system on roads in Baghdad and the governorates. The Director General of Traffic, Lieutenant General Adnan Samir, stated that the new radars will be distributed with 40 units for Baghdad and an equal number for the governorates. These advanced devices operate at a 360-degree angle and are portable on patrols, ensuring high flexibility in monitoring. Samir added that each governorate now possesses five portable radars, distributed according to the lengths of their roads. These additions complement previous efforts in importing and deploying AI-powered radars and cameras. Baghdad's smart traffic system currently includes 139 camera monitoring points, distributed across intersections and main squares, in addition to 60 active radar points. Lieutenant General Samir also revealed the imminent generalization of a new speed limit system for external and express roads, following the completion of its final testing phases. This system will be applied to all smart traffic users, with varying speeds depending on the road type. It is expected to enable citizens to complete their transactions via mobile phone, reducing their need to visit physical locations and contributing to traffic congestion relief, especially with the Directorate's opening of new sites for transaction processing in districts across the governorates.
