In a move reflecting efforts to resume air traffic between Iraq and Iran, the Iraqi Ambassador to Tehran, Yasser Abdul Zahra Al-Hajjaj, announced on Monday that Najaf International Airport will open its doors to Iranian flights within 24 hours. This declaration underscores the Iraqi government's continuous endeavors, led by Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi, to restore air links between the two neighboring countries. Ambassador Abdul Zahra clarified that the government had not issued any official decision to halt flights with Iran. He attributed the previous suspension to foreign ground services companies refraining from providing their services, fearing potential US sanctions. Al-Hajjaj reiterated that Najaf International Airport would resume receiving Iranian flights within the announced timeframe.
