The Directorate General for Narcotics Affairs announced on Saturday the successful execution of a qualitative security operation in Iraq's territorial waters within the Arabian Gulf. The operation resulted in the seizure of 150 kilograms of narcotic substances and 21,000 Larica pills, in addition to the arrest of three suspects, including one foreign national. This operation was carried out through the joint efforts of Special Intelligence and Investigations Operations, the intelligence cell of Muthanna narcotics, the Military Intelligence Directorate, and the Naval Force Command. It was initiated following precise intelligence received from a neighboring country indicating suspicious activity via maritime routes. After subjecting the information to thorough investigation and intelligence tracking, the executing force successfully identified and apprehended a first boat, finding two Iraqi suspects on board. Continuous follow-up operations then led to the identification and seizure of a second boat, with a foreign national suspect found on board, alongside the confiscation of the aforementioned quantities of narcotics, psychotropic pills, and the vessels used in the smuggling attempt. The Directorate affirmed that this qualitative operation underscores the expanded scope of intelligence work in pursuing drug trafficking networks and eradicating land and sea smuggling routes wherever they exist.
